LETTER: There are many forms of discrimination

There are many forms of discrimination in our country, racism being one of the worst. Unfortunately, all the public debate on this subject has failed to reduce its existence. Perhaps we are even going backwards.

I believe any time one group of people seeks “special treatment” or advantage over those outside that group, there will be resentment from those outside that group. That’s why groups like Black Lives Matter or the NAACP, in spite of their worthwhile goals, aggravate the racial climate. The old saying, “The ends don’t justify the means” applies to this situation. Ask yourself this – Wouldn’t we have more cooperation and support from ALL people if the work of these groups applied to everyone? To people of all races? Even though there will always be haters who try to harm those they hate, most people simply want equality and respect. I hope the aforementioned groups, and similar ones, have the magnanimity to evolve into groups that represent all peoples.
