Orange Police Log: April 17

Wednesday, April 17

12:10 a.m. — Assisted Massachusetts State Police with a traffic stop on Route 2. Subject taken into custody for drug and firearm charges.

12:14 a.m. — Suspicious vehicle, Daniel Shays Highway. Spoke with subject who was just keeping an eye on the place for awhile and is all set.

2:06 a.m. — Follow up investigation, East River Street. Party to be charged with filing false police report.

2:41 a.m. — 911 call, Cottage Street. No one on the line. Silent call procedure completed. Party called back and apologized stating she just got a new phone and accidentally hit the emergency button. Denied need for police, fire or EMS.

9:12 a.m. — Caller states there is someone coming to pick up some items who put a stop payment on the check he wrote out, East River Street. On arrival, spoke with the caller and found that subject had come to pick up some property. 

10:10 a.m. — Motor vehicle complaint, New Athol Road. Caller was following behind a small box truck that has the back door wide open and items rolling around in it and is concerned that something might come out. Could not locate.

10:24 a.m. — Caller states that a turkey that lived at Mechanic Street was struck by a vehicle and is dead. Animal Control Officer had picked it up and will notify owner.

10:38 a.m. — Officer wanted, West Main Street. Caller is having problems with subject who has threatened to come to the police department and obtain records of past involvement and possibly have him arrested. This is because he is going for custody of their child. Caller advised they do not have any reason to arrest him and have had only minor contact with him.

1:39 p.m. — Larceny, West Main Street. Caller states her son’s Nintendo Switch and ten games were stolen yesterday and thinks she knows who did it. Caller will be filling out a statement so an investigation can be started.

2:10 p.m. — Welfare check, Beacon Street. Caller advises subject is not allowed at a house, and got a call from her friend who lives downstairs from subject and saw the person walk upstairs. Caller would like the police to go there and tell party to leave. The reporting party was contacted prior to responding and advised that there was nothing the police could do if subject refused to leave. The reporting party understood and requested a response anyway. The door leading to the apartment is an outside security door. It was locked and there was no answer from anyone in the building. 

4:05 p.m. — Traffic stop on East Main Street for operating with expired registration (not registered). Operator issued ticket. Plates seized. Vehicle towed by Dick’s Auto.

4:48 p.m. — Escort to keep the peace, Whitney Street.

6:06 p.m. — Soliciting, Burrill Avenue. Caller reporting a female is placing Castle Rock information inside mailboxes and is heading toward Prentice Street. Officer spoke with person putting information in mailboxes with information about next week’s events.

6:13 p.m. — Flagged over by a motorist getting off Route 2 stating motor vehicle was heading eastbound on Route 2 and is all over the road. State Police advised. While on the line with the caller, an Orange police officer pulled up.

7:07 p.m. — Smoke investigation, South Main Street and East Myrtle Street.  Advised the smoke has dissipated. Subject was burning wood in a metal barrel on Carpenter Street.

9:23 p.m. — Suspicious activity, East River Street. Caller reporting suspicious activity at Pine Crest. Stated she heard someone knocking and whistling at her sliding glass door and believes it is a male. Requested officers to check the area, especially around her sliding door. Area searched, negative contact.

9:26 p.m. — Welfare check, East Myrtle Street. Caller reported middle aged male wearing a dark colored sweatshirt and reflective sneakers who is walking on East Myrtle Street heading toward Mahar and appears to be intoxicated. Caller stated subject was stumbling all over and thought it looked like he might be attempting to break into vehicles. Last seen near the Little League field. Second caller stated that the subject knocked on her door and stated he just wanted to say hi, then left on foot. Identified male party who said he was going for a walk. Spoke with another party who stated she would be home with him for the night.

9:50 p.m. — Unwanted person, East Main Street. Caller requested subject be removed from the residence. He is being verbally abusive. Upon arrival, spoke with both parties. Verbal argument only. Both parties in agreement to stay in separate rooms and leave each other alone for the night.
