Orange Police Log: April 18

Thursday, April 18

7:11 a.m. — Safety hazard, Holtshire Road and Lake Mattawa Road. Caller states there were holes in the road and plates had been put over them but now the holes are bigger than the plates. Highway superintendent advised.  

9 a.m. — Assisted party who locked his keys in his truck, King Street. Entry gained.

9:31 a.m. — Whitney Street; caller looking for an officer who said that subject got into her Boost Mobile account and switched the account in his name. Caller has been in contact with the company regarding this. Apartment checked, no answer at the door. Reporting party later called back and subject was picked up and is headed to Adams, MA or Greenfield. Be On The Lookout put out.

10:24 a.m. — Assault, East Main Street. Caller states that she pushed her partner and denied that subject needed any medical attention. Advised both parties to separate until an office shows up. All parties were spoken with and the calling party advised that she just wants to pack up her belongings and leave. Same was done without incident.

11:06 a.m. — Illegal dumping, School Street and North Main Street. Caller reports a man in a white car dumps trash in the dumpster across the street and thinks this is the same person that has been illegally dumping. He is usually in the neighborhood between 11 p.m. and 12:30 a.m.

2:33 p.m. — Caller states a black Dodge Dakota is crossing the center line several times, Route 2, Daniel Shays Highway in New Salem heading towards Orange. A vehicle matching the description given, bearing a similar registration was located and stopped on Route 202. In speaking with the operator, no signs of impairment and/or alcohol were noted. Operator was advised of the complaint and given a verbal warning for the violation.

2:55 p.m. — Unwanted person, East Main Street. Caller states subject is at caller’s residence to remove some of her items. The caller is not there and does not want her there. Officer responded and did not see anyone outside or received any response from inside. Control advises caller is at Walmart and the unwanted party left also.

3:09 p.m. — Officer wanted, Russ Street. Caller advises that he is in receivership of property and in the last week or so there have been multiple incidents of damage done to the property. Caller requests extra patrols because he had a lock box taken, a door axed open, and other miscellaneous damages. He will be putting in new windows and fixing up the place and if there are any issues to call him as no one should be there at night except a neighbor keeping an eye on the place.

5:10 p.m. — Traffic stop on Daniel Shays Highway for operating a motor vehicle with expired registration, non renewable. Operator issued citation. Plates seized. Towed by Jim’s Auto.

5:46 p.m. — Caller reports her silver Subaru Forester is disabled in front of the Fireside restaurant, East Main Street. She will have it removed by tomorrow morning. Checked the location of the vehicle and advised it is fine where it is.

6:58 p.m. — Unwanted person, East Main Street. Caller states subject is in the driveway in a white SUV and is attempting to hit him with it. Officers responded and found the two are breaking up and subject is not happy about it. Subject trespassed and understood that she would be arrested if she returns. Advised of restraining order rights.

10:32 p.m. — Suspicious activity, Brookside Road. Caller reporting that she saw a black female in a small silver car that is parked near the gate of the junkyard at Brookside Road. Headlights are facing the gate and she appeared to be attempting to open it. Responded and car was gone on arrival. Padlocks in order.

10:36 p.m. — Suspicious vehicle, East River Street. Caller states a black vehicle has been in and out of the complex approximately five times in the last hour, and that someone from the vehicle was also shining a flashlight into the sliding door of their home. Caller said this is an ongoing issue. Officer responded and monitored the area. No vehicle was spotted. Officer walked around the complex and found none.

11:15 p.m. — Follow up investigation, East Main Street. After reviewing camera footage, summons complaint will be applied for. Spoke to victim and advised her of the same. 

Friday, April 19

12:07 a.m. — Motor vehicle violation, North Main Street. Stopped for operator having suspended license. Licensed operator arrived to take vehicle. Citation issued.

3:32 a.m. — Tractor trailer unit vs. deer, Daniel Shays Highway. Caller advises about 10 miles south of his current location, south of Orange on Route 202 he struck a deer with his Walmart tractor trailer unit and was unable to call due to not having cell phone service. Caller said vehicle has damage on the right side. Operator already called his company and was told to continue on. Officer advised operator that this will be logged and would not be able to check if the deer is on the road since its out of jurisdiction. Checked the unit, right quarter fender damage found.
