ATHOL — On Saturday, Oct. 5 at 10 a.m., there will be a community-wide Blessing of the Animals service on the common. The blessing of pets and animals will be offered on this date, as it is near the feast of St. Francis of Assisi, who was most well-known for his love of all creation and animals, in particular.

In the Scriptures, the act of blessing means 'the imparting of power or life.' This Blessing of the Animals will witness to the love of God and the Church’s love, care, and concern for creation.

All animals are welcome, and as some animals get along better than others, it is asked that owners come with pets on leashes, or appropriately monitored for safely and confined given their particular nature.
