ROYALSTON – Apply the bug spray and sunscreen and head for the Tully Lake Recreation Area on Saturday, June 15 for a free Family Fun Day from 10 a.m. to noon, presented by the North Quabbin Children’s Health and Wellness System of Care Taskforce.

According to Amanda Mankowsky, Youth & Family Engagement Coordinator for the North Quabbin Community Coalition, the event sponsor, Family Fun Day is open to anybody. “It’s a great way for families to come out and have a great time and to get together and celebrate our rural region.” She said hundreds have attended the event over the years and this will be the first time it will be held at Tully Lake.

Mankowsky said there will be 10 community partners present with tables of information and activities for kids. The North Quabbin Parents Advisory Council and Youth Action Council and the North Quabbin Recovery Center will have a table to create make-your-own trail mix. The Athol Area YMCA will provide water safety tips. Valuing Our Children will do a story walk through the trails along with an obstacle course. Clinical & Support Options will make pompom caterpillars and bookmarks, the Mahar Key Club will do button making and local employees from the Department of Children and Families will provide a family activity. The Athol Board of Health has provided tick informational cards.

Family Fun Day has been around since the early 2000s, according to Mankowsky. It was first run by a community partnership with children until the NQCC took over less than 10 years ago, matching the mission to improve the quality of life for those living in the North Quabbin region.

In the case of inclement weather, call 978-249-3703 for a message regarding the status of the event.
