FITCHBURG — Whether you are looking for a new hobby, want to update your work skills or looking for career advancement, the fall session of Monty Tech’s Continuing Education Program offers more than 130 classes in a wide variety of areas, including online options and courses leading to industry-recognized certifications.

According to Program Director Mary May, the fall session includes many new offerings, along with expanded courses in a number of high-demand career fields.

Add to that convenient class scheduling and a “pay-as-you-go” payment feature, makes the program particularly popular with area students, she said. “We continue to broaden our personal enrichment offerings in the areas of fitness, arts and crafts, culinary arts, dance and finance. This fall, creative writing, fine arts, opioid awareness, woodworking and gardening for health are a few of our new courses,” said May.

The program’s primary focus, she added, is to continue to provide courses that help area employers meet their workforce needs and demands. For example, after working closely with industry professionals, a much-needed oil-burner technician course, which prepares students for EPA 608 certification, has been added.

“It has become very clear over the years that area employers need a reliable resource where their current and prospective workers can receive high-quality training and industry-recognized certifications in high-demand careers. We are continually striving to fill that need,” she said.

Another unique opportunity offered this session is for those in the manufacturing field to receive grant funds to take either the MACWIC Level 1 class or the Starrett NC3 Precision Measurements Instruments certification course.

Medical offerings have also been expanded to include bilingual certified medical assisting, patient-care technician assistant, EKG, phlebotomy, medical billing and coding, and CNA.

“Another benefit of our health programs is that once students have successfully completed their certifications, they are able to receive on-the-job training via externships and/or job shadowing. Many of these opportunities lead to permanent employment,” she said. “One of the biggest benefits to our program is we schedule classes to accommodate students who work, take care of children or aging parents during the day, and want to enhance a particular skill set, change careers or retrain.”

Classes start the week of Sept. 9. Registration is ongoing via online, mail, phone or in person. Monty Tech is located at 1050 Westminster St., Rte. 2A, at the Fitchburg-Westminster line.
