Athol Police Log: July 12-13

Friday, July 12

3:33 a.m. — Medical emergency, School Street. Left assist for slip and fall. No injuries.

8:28 a.m. — Medical emergency for 91-year-old male who has fallen, South Royalston Road.

9:42 a.m. — Report of harassment, Hampstead Place.

9:52 a.m. — Gardner Police requesting Athol contact party to notify them their vehicle is going to be towed, Lake Street. Two residences checked; no answer at either. GPD advised.

10:37 a.m. — Request for welfare check, Lee Street. Matter resolved.

10:51 a.m. — 911 for 93-year-old female, Daniel Shays Highway. Transported to Athol Hospital.

12:04 p.m. — Detective Buck contacted InComm Holdings regarding an ongoing investigation.

12:42 p.m. — South Street party reporting a patio chair was damaged by officers in reference to earlier call.

1:37 p.m. — Report of illegal dumping, Park Street.

2:05 p.m. — 911 caller reporting male possibly was struck on his bike by a vehicle, Main and Crescent streets. Did not appear to be injured.

2:18 p.m. — Animal complaint, Grove Street.

4:12 p.m. — Sgt. from petersham calling about a black Saturn that just passed him on South Athol Road at about 70mph. Officer will Be On The Lookout (BOLO) for vehicle. Negative contact.

5:05 p.m. — Walk in to report his lost backpack. Stated he lost it at Great Wolf Lodge. Party was told to contact Fitchburg Police. Party left then returned 15 minutes later and stated he believes he may have lost it at Market Basket instead of Great Wolf Lodge. Spoke with party who stated backpack was taken from his car; it contains prescription medications  and other items of value. He stated he received a call from Loss Prevention at Great Wolf Lodgeabout reviewing camera footage. And stated he spoke with a male at Market Basket who reported the cameras were not functioning at the time of the incident. Officers spoke with security manager at Great Wolf Lodge and there were no incidents of lost items brought to their attention. The Market Basket store manager stated all cameras are working and there was no individual who spoke with any employee there regarding a lost backpack. Reporting party now states he talked with a female party at Market Basket about the incident, but not sure of her name. Party was advised the actions he can take and sent on way.

6:06 p.m. — Scam call,Prospect Street. Party states Texas police called to say they had a warrant for her and were going to arrest her. She did not give out any information.

6:14 p.m. — Summer Street caller asked how to keep someone out of her house.

6:18 p.m. — Party in lobby stating her roommate locked her and her son out, Main Street. Advised male party he needs to give female the key since she is on the lease. Parties exchanged key in front of officer at the station.

6:44 p.m. — Walk-in reporting someone drunk driving, Pine Street. Police will BOLO for vehicle.

7:12 p.m. — Party requests welfare check on his son who was never dropped off with him, Beacon Street. Negative contact.

7:24 p.m. — Ambulance to Chestnut Hill Avenue for 36-year-old female who dislocated her knee. 

8:31 p.m. — Traffic stop regarding BOLO from Orange, Main Street. Motorist held until Orange Police arrived on scene.

9:17 p.m. — Ambulance to LakeStreet for 49-year-old male with chest pain.

9:28 p.m. — Suspicious vehicle, Silver Lake Park. Sent on way.

9:54 p.m. — Suspicious vehicle, Tunnel Street. Caller reporting he works at the store and there has been a Rascall parked across the street for about four hours. Male party found between Tunnel Street and the railroad tracks, possibly intoxicated. Party sent on way after retrieving key.

10 p.m. — Officer out with an intoxicated male party. A friend will transport party home.

10:05 p.m. — Report of fireworks, South Athol Road. Party advised of complaint.

Saturday, July 13

9:02 a.m. — Ambulance to South Main Street for 65-year-old female; possible stroke.

9:54 a.m. — Ambulance responded to head-on motor vehicle accident, Templeton Road, with multiple injuries. Vehicles operated by Marguerite M. Mundell, Chestnut Hill Avenue, Athol and Dalisha M. Castillo-Vargas, Kennebunk Street, Athol were involved. Second and third ambulances requested. Both vehicle’s towed from scene. Police report that Castillo-Vargas crossed over the double yellow line and went head on into the Mundell vehicle. Three people from the Mundell vehicle were transported to Athol Hospital. Castillo-Vargas was transported later. Citation was issued to Castillo-Vargas for failure to keep right and marked lanes violation.

12:51 p.m. — School Street party requested to speak with officer about a party that was evicted and is back at the residence.

1:42 p.m. — Burbee Road caller spoken with about a canoe he recovered last year.

1:56 p.m. — Main Street caller stated a male party went into the bathroom and broke open the sharps box, take a needle and then leave. Party will call if party returns so officers can stand by while party is trespassed from the store.

2:17 p.m. — Crescent Street caller reporting there are six kids sitting on a picnic table out back and they do not live in the building. Parties sent on way. Spoke to a parent about child’s demeanor, informed her of his activities and the ongoing issues police have with him.

3:06 p.m. — Police request ambulance respond to Gibson Drive.

3:27 p.m. — Ambulance responded to Cobb Road.

4:37 p.m. — Ambulance to the police station. Male prisoner complaining of chest pain. Officer off at hospital to watch prisoner.

8:45 p.m. — Ambulance requested to Morton Meadows for male party in his 60s face down on the lawn. States his speech is slurred and he may be having a stroke.

8:55 p.m. — Welfare check, Central Street. Child at Risk hotline calling for check on four children. States they have received two reports today of the kids not having food, running water, and living in a dirty home. Also believed the parents are under the influence. Hotline notified that resident had water shut off earlier in the week. Homeowner would not allow police nor Dept. of Children and Families inside.

10:27 p.m. — Off duty fire department member reporting a male party down on the ground next to a bike also laying on the side of South Athol Road. Ambulance responded.

11 p.m. — Caller reporting a large group of people gathering who do not belong there, Highland Avenue and Haven Street. Possible drug activity. Parties gone on arrival.
