Use reusable bags Editor, Daily News
Recently, I visit my grandchildren in California, and we decided to hike down to a nearby beach. The children ran ahead, and my son and I walked behind them. All of a sudden, the children came running back from the beach in tears. They had come upon a dead, beached whale.
Today, I heard news about a whale washed ashore, dead with thirteen pounds of plastic waste in its stomach.
Whales throughout the world often die with huge amounts of plastic waste items in their bodies. The United Nations said that marine life faces “irreparable damage” from approximately ten tons of plastic waste ending up in the oceans every year.
I urge everyone please to put more effort into not using plastic bags. Please get and remember to use reusable bags. Bags can be bought in most stores for as little as 2 for $1.
If you see anyone who forgot their reusable bags, please give a gentle reminder to make an effort to remember next time.
