Thanks to Dr. Gorlin and the Athol ER team

I am writing to commend the emergency department at Athol Hospital. A few days ago, while moving furniture into the Village School’s new building in South Royalston, I managed to drop a heavy bookcase, slashing my little finger so badly that it eventually needed six stitches. When I arrived at the Athol ER, I was amazed by how quickly I was seen and treated.

Within minutes the wound had been given a preliminary dressing, my information had been processed, and the cut was being stitched by a Dr. Gorlin. He was happy to talk while he worked, and I discovered that he was an immensely experienced emergency physician, with 40 years of ER work to draw on. As well as sewing me up, he explained how and why my wound would heal, given the angle of the cut, and put me completely at my ease.

I was in and out of the hospital in less than an hour, which I consider very impressive, particularly given the fact that my injury was a minor one compared with what the ER must often have to deal with. I’d like to pass on my thanks to Dr. Gorlin and the whole ER team; it's good to know they’re there when we need them.
