Ongoing Projects:

2nd Annual Hat & Mitten Drive, through Dec. 21, at Hamshaw Lumber Inc., 68 New Athol Rd., Orange. For children and families in our community: new hats, gloves, mittens and scarves accepted. Proceeds to benefit Athol Salvation Army and Valuing Our Children who will distribute as needed. Hours: mon-Fri 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Sat. 8-4; Sun. 9-2. Monetary donations welcome. The Athol Salvation Army’s annual Angel Tree Project is under way. Tags for children bearing gender and age and item needed (toy or clothing and size) are available in local banks and Credit Unions, Nana’s Country Kitchen, and Adam’s Farm. Items (along with the original tag) may be returned to the place where it was obtained, or to the Salvation Army, 107 Ridge Ave., Athol.

Thursday, December 13

11 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. — Baby & Toddler Time, Athol Public Library: Caregivers and little ones listen to stories, sing, move, socialize, and play. This program is for children up to 36 months; no registration necessary.

4-8 p.m. — Fill the Truck! Members of the Athol Credit Union and Salvation Army will be at the Orange Walmart to collect new, unwrapped toys and clothing for children (ages newborn to 17)  in the North Quabbin area.

Friday, December 14

9:30 a.m. – 12 p.m. — Story Walk: Story boards are set up in Millers River Park for people of all ages to read; afterward children can make a craft in the Children’s Library,  Athol Public Library. In inclement weather, the story is set up inside the library. This program is made possible by Valuing Our Children of Athol. No registration necessary.

3-9 p.m. — “It's A Wonderful Night in Turners Falls” presented by RiverCulture. Holiday activities for the whole family are planned throughout downtown on Avenue A and 3rd Street: art exhibitions, live music, restaurant specials, holiday promotions, and unique gift buying opportunities. Children and adults alike are encouraged to put a wish list in the Magic Mailbox, as well as notes of hope for friends, family and the world. Santa will arrive at Spinner Park to collect the notes at 6:30 p.m.

4 p.m. – 5 p.m. Minecraft and Roblox Club: Children in grades 3 and 4 can register to play Minecraft and Roblox, Athol Public Library.

Saturday, December 15

9 a.m. to noon — 7th annual Cookie Walk, at the Athol Congregational Church, across from the uptown common. Proceeds benefit the Relay for Life Team, Spirit in Motion/American Cancer Society. To join the team or for more info call team captain Darlene Kilhart 978-249-2983.

10 a.m. — Mrs. Clause will read Christmas stories at the Beals Memorial Library, 50 Pleasant St., Winchendon. Bake sale from 10 a.m. to noon. Bring a camera to take photos with Mrs. Claus. Info: 978-297-0300.
