ATHOL — The Town of Athol is developing a Complete Streets Prioritization Plan in order to become eligible for pedestrian-based infrastructure funding. The town will hold a public meeting on Tuesday, April 30 at 7 p.m. in Liberty Hall at the Athol Town Hall, 584 Main St. to discuss its work and development on the Complete Streets Prioritization Plan. The town’s consulting team, Howard Stein Hudson will be on hand to discuss the plan and to listen to public input, a vital part of identifying key projects.

Ideas and visions for walking, biking, transit and safety are encouraged, for example, safer pedestrian infrastructure to the North Quabbin Commons and Hannaford’s Plaza, or the need for sidewalk accessible ramp improvements.

Complete Streets are streets for everyone, designed and operated to enable safe access for all users, including pedestrians, bicyclists, motorists and transit riders of all ages and abilities. Complete Streets make it easy to cross the street, walk to shops, and bicycle to work.

“The Complete Streets Program can help us achieve the goal of reconstructing Athol, one sidewalk at a time,” said Richard Kilhart, Assistant Superintendent of the Athol Department of Public Works.

If unable to make the meeting, ideas and comments can be submitted on an interactive mapping website at http://wikimapping.com/wikimap/Athol.html. Comments can also be mailed to Eric R. Smith, Director of Planning and Development, Athol Town Hall, 584 Main Street, Athol, MA 01331.

For further questions about this project, contact Richard Kilhart at 978-249-4542 or asstsupt@townofathol.org, or Eric R. Smith at 978-575-0301 ext. 300 or planning@townofathol.org.
