ATHOL — The weather prediction for Saturday’s River Rat Race exceeds the traditional “65 and sunny” statement issued faithfully by Race Director Dave Flint every year. The latest report of rain in the morning then becoming sunny and 68 degrees has brought in a wave of registrations. Thursday night at the Athol Daily News River Rat Race headquarters, the numbers rose to 215 as of 8 p.m.

First-timer Evie Dumont of Athol and paddle partner Jacob Foster of Portland, ME will be riding along the Millers in an aluminum canoe.
