Athol Police Log: June 15

Saturday, June 15

5:29 a.m. – Caller reporting a white pickup has been sitting on the side of the road for a couple of hours, Pleasant Street. Caller thought there may be a couple of people sleeping in it with the truck running. Officer spoke with both occupants who stated they had slept in the vehicle last night because it was chilly out and their friend never answered the door when they arrived. Parties located their friend and all was well. Truck was positioned on one of the flower pots out front which appeared to be damaged due to the vehicle parking on top of it.  

8:28 a.m. — Caller would like to speak to officer about finding a cup of urine and a bag of feces on her porch this morning, Park Street.

9:31 a.m. — Multiple 911 calls from barbershop for a male party that they believe is on drugs and not making any sense, Main Street.

9:33 a.m. — Police requesting ambulance for mental health evaluation, Main Street.

9:36 a.m. — Heavy black smoke from the boiler room chimney, Crescent Street.

10:08 a.m. — Walk-in stating that there is an open door at the house across from her, Chestnut Street. Stated it has been open for a day or two. Checked residence. All appears in order, door secured.

10:37 a.m. — Caller requesting ambulance for 65-year-old, Pequoig Avenue.

10:46 a.m. — Motor vehicle stop, Pinedale Avenue and Pond Street. Written warning for multiple violations.

11:09 a.m. — Motor vehicle stop, Pinedale Avenue. Verbal warning for speed.

11:30 a.m. — Motor vehicle stop, Main and Exchange streets. Verbal warning for a crosswalk violation.

11:44 a.m. — Caller would like an officer because her son’s Jeep is about to be towed from a property that she was evicted from, Sanders Street. Situation mediated.

12:20 p.m. — Caller states that his son’s car was egged, Pleasant Street.

12:35 p.m. — Walk-in would like to speak to an officer about a ladder that she claims her neighbor took and they believe it is theirs, Wellington Street. Subject states her 58-year-old ladder is missing and believes the neighbor may have it.

12:54 p.m. — Caller states there is a dirt bike that is flying up and down the road at a high rate of speed, Old Keene Road. Officer parked his cruiser in the area for 30 minutes and was unable to locate the bike. Will be on the lookout.

2:50 p.m. — Greenfield CSO calling for a welfare check on a female that has been taken off medications, Cottage Street. Female party was placed under section 12.

3:27 p.m. — Officer requesting ambulance for mental health evaluation, Cottage Street.

3:50 p.m. — Motor vehicle accident, Brookside Road and South Main Street. A vehicle operated by Raven A. E. Owens of Pinedale Avenue, Athol, rear ended a vehicle operated by Bernard R. Buteau of Petersham Road, Athol, while at the intersection of South Main Street and Daniel Shays Highway. No injuries.

4:20 p.m. — Male party walking down the hill seems intoxicated and unstable on his feet, Bearsden Road. Made contact, all was well.

4:48 p.m. — Subject into the station asking for an officer to meet him at an address because someone “stole the depot stairs” and left before giving any further information, Main Street. Upon further review, item was not stolen, just moved where the party did not see it.

5:53 p.m. — Caller states a green Honda Civic with NH plates has driven by slowly several times, Lenox Street and Columbian Avenue. Negative contact with the vehicle.

7:36 p.m. — 911 caller requests an ambulance for a 68-year-old female who fell and hit her head, Daniel Shays Highway.

8:33 p.m. — Motor vehicle stop, Daniel Shays Highway and Coolidge Parkway. Operator issued citation for speeding and driving without a license. Subject to be summonsed for unlicensed operation.

9:11 p.m. — Caller complaining about fireworks in the area, Freedom and Main streets. Searched the area, all quiet on arrival.

9:34 p.m. — Officer out with suspicious vehicle and multiple parties, Silver Lake Beach. Spoke with parties involved and advised them to find another place to hang out during late hours. Parties were advised of park hours and sent on their way.

11:24 p.m. — Caller reporting a baby raccoon in their basement that has not eaten and is barely moving, Sanders Street. ACO en route to the pound with the animal.

Sunday, June 16

12:13 a.m. — Report of motorcycles racing down the road waking up the neighborhood, South Athol Road. Unable to locate vehicle, but spoke with possible involved subjects and advised them to stop.

1:05 a.m. — Party reporting a car alarm has been going off on the next street over for about three minutes and was unsure if it was a breaking and entering, Sanders Street. Nothing seemed to be out of place in the area.

2:05 a.m. — Medical emergency, Main Street.

2:25 a.m. — Caller states parties fighting inside and outside of her neighbor’s house, Euclid Street. Made contact with the residents who stated that there was a verbal dispute, but it had ended prior to police arrival.

3:01 a.m. — Caller reporting a tree down in the road, Riceville Road. Does not believe there are any lines down. Contacted the tree department. Athol DPW cut and removed the tree from the road. Roadway back open.

8:17 a.m. — Minor motor vehicle accident, Main Street. A vehicle operated by Jean Hause of Athol was backing out of a parking area while a vehicle operated by Mary M. Wheeler of Phillipston was pulling into line. Hause struck Wheeler with her right rear corner into Wheeler’s right door/front fender. Hause was cited for failure to use care in backing.

8:58 a.m. — Ambulance to South Royalston Road for female.

9:53 a.m. — Main Street, motor vehicle crash. A 2004 Jeep Liberty operated by Nancy J. Wilson of Athol struck a pole on Main Street. Utility pole was knocked off the base, National Grid contacted. Officer requested wrecker to tow the vehicle, which sustained front end damage. Wilson was cited for operating at a speed greater than reasonable and marked lanes violation.

10:02 a.m. — Motor vehicle crash, Templeton Road. A 2019 Toyota Highlander operated by Erin Leslie Grant of Athol, and a 2013 Hyundai Elantra operated by Katherine L. Drouin of Royalston were in collision on Templeton Road. Next wrecker on list contacted for tow.

10:24 a.m. — Motor vehicle crash, Main Street. A 2006 Chrysler PT Cruiser operated by Rebecca J. Tata of Athol, and a 2015 Ford Escape operated by Brandy L. Racicot-Enders were involved in a minor motor vehicle accident.

11:21 a.m. — Gardner Police Department requested a notification be made to School Street resident.
