ORANGE — A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Thursday, Feb. 4, 2016, at Saint Mary’s Church in Orange for Richard C. Belsky, 75, who died Jan. 29, 2016, at Baystate Franklin Medical Center in Greenfield.
Fr. Jose Bermudez officiated. Janet Paoletti was the organist, Theresa Bergquist was the cantor and Jack Bergquist was the alter server. The Old and New Testament readings were done by Peg Morin. The offertory gifts were brought forward by Richard’s sister, Kathleen Belsky and Clovine Sahagian.
Interment was in Gethsemane Cemetery, Athol. The bearers were Jonathan Cole, Greg Metevier, Larry Fisher and Peter Mallet.
Witty’s Funeral Home, 158 South Main St., Orange, was honored with directing the arrangements.
ORANGE — Richard C. Belsky, 75, of Orange, died late Friday evening, Jan. 29, 2016, at Baystate Franklin Medical Center in Greenfield.
Born on Dec. 3, 1940, in Gardner, he was a son of the late Charles F. and Frances A. (Sironaitis) Belsky and grew up in Orange, graduating from Ralph C. Mahar Regional School in 1958. While at Mahar, he played basketball and football, was a member of the band and sang in the chorus. Richard had also participated in the school’s minstrel shows. He later graduated from Fitchburg State.
Richard had worked for the former Jordan Marsh Company in Boston as a purchasing agent for 14 years. He previously worked at the Tides Hotel at Hampton Beach, N.H., and also worked 18 years for Verizon (which was New England Telephone and then NYNEX before merging with Verizon) and never missed a day at work.
Richard was a published poet, having his “Hidden Key” released by Hilltop Records of Hollywood.
He retired in 1992, except for his writing.
In his younger days, Richard was an avid skier and enjoyed walking, hiking and reading.
Survivors include his sisters, Kathleen Belsky of Orange and Marcia Chiasson of Arizona; and nephews, nieces, grandnephews and grandnieces.
There are no calling hours.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, Feb. 4, at 10 a.m., at St. Mary’s Church, 19 Congress St., Orange, with Fr. Jose Bermudez officiating.
Interment will be private.
