Marian A. Lombard

ATHOL — Marian A. (Mansfield) Lombard, 94, of South Athol Road, died at home on Wednesday morning, Nov. 15, 2017, surrounded by loved ones.

Born in Spokane, Wash., on July 25, 1923, she was a daughter of the late Chester A. and Agnes (Miller) Mansfield and grew up in Spokane, graduating from Columbia Union High School in 1941 in White Salmon, Wash. Marian also studied business in Seattle for two years, and also enjoyed doing facial drawings/portraits with a pencil.

In 1945, Marian married Leroy W. Lombard in Cliff Island, Maine. Leroy predeceased her.

Marian worked for Boeing during World War II in Seattle.

In 1955, Marian and her family moved to their home on South Athol Road, coming from South Lancaster.

Educated at the University of Massachusetts Amherst and Fitchburg State College, Marian had attained her associate’s degree in early childcare.

Marian had worked as a personal care aide in private homes in Athol and Petersham for a number of years. She previously had worked for Head Start and the Montachusett Opportunity Council (MOC).

Marian was a member of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church at 3200 South Athol Rd., since 1956. Marian taught kindergarten classes there as well as Sabbath and vacation Bible school programs.

Marian enjoyed both vegetable and floral gardening, reading, watching nature documentaries and Christian shows.

Her sons, Wes, Mark and Matt were her caregivers the past three years so she could comfortably stay in her own home.

Survivors include her children, Timmie Lombard of Athol, Wesley W. “Wes” Lombard (Dottie) of De Kalb Junction, N.Y., Mark L. Lombard (Lena) of Cliff Island, Maine, and Matthew L. Lombard (Judy) of Milton-Freewater, Ore.; nine grandchildren, Coreen, Christopher, Daniel, Lindsey, Adam, Rachel, Ronilea, Joshua, and Justin; eight great-grandchildren, Abigail, Emma, Madison, Deagan, Grayson, Evelyn, Frances and Rebekah; and a nephew, Andy Medway of Paradise, Calif.

Besides her parents and husband, Marian was predeceased by a sister, Ginger Medway of San Bernardino, Calif.

There are no calling hours.

A memorial service will be held at the Seventh-Day Adventist Church, 3200 South Athol Rd., Athol, at a date and time to be announced in the spring of 2018.

Witty’s Funeral Home, 158 South Main St., Orange, is directing the arrangements.
