WILMINGTON, Del. — Charles Alfred Beane, 85, of Wilmington, Del., passed away peacefully on Feb. 6, 2016, at Seasons Hospice & Palliative Care at Christiana Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Ware, Mass., he was the son of the late Elsa Ohlson and James Beane. Charles was a 1948 graduate of Athol High School, and a 1958 graduate of Bryant College, Providence, R.I. He served in the U. S. Army during the Korean conflict as an MP stationed in Germany.

Charles spent 24 years in various management positions in the welding and safety industry. In 1984 he founded Beane Associates Inc., a turnaround management firm in Wilmington, Del., from which he retired in 2010.

Charles worked as a volunteer at the Brandywine Public Library.

He enjoyed life the most being with his wife as they attended their three sons’ school sports games and school activities and going to professional games. Later on, he also enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s sports and school events.

He was a member of the American Legion Edward H. Phillips Post 102, Athol, and a longtime member of St. Mary Magdalen Parish in Wilmington.

Charles was predeceased by a brother, James Beane. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Anna Gagliardi Beane; his sons, Thomas and his wife Carol of Wilmington, Del., Christopher and his wife Mimi of Haddonfield, N.J., and Kevin and his wife Shelly of Newark, Del.; his grandsons, Patrick, Tyler, Alex, Sean, Matthew and Christopher Beane; his granddaughter, Marguerite Beane; and several nephews, niece and cousins.

Friends may call on Saturday, Feb. 13, from 9 to 11 a.m., at the McCrery & Harra Funeral Home, 3924 Concord Pike (Route 202 south of Silverside Road) Wilmington, Del. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:30 a.m. at St. Mary Magdalen Church, 7 Sharpley Rd., Wilmington. Burial will be in St. Joseph on the Brandywine Cemetery.
