ATHOL — A Mass of Christian burial for Anne O’Brien was held Monday, Feb. 8, 2016, in Our Lady Immaculate Church, Athol.
Rev. Edwin Montana, pastor of Our Lady Immaculate, officiated. The organist was Janet Paoletti and soloist was Liz Hume. The draping of the funeral pall was done by Fay Ott and Bridget Welch. The crucifix was placed on the casket by Margaret O’Brien. Readings were shared by Eileen Bow. The offertory gifts were brought forth by Mary Jardine and Sean O’Brien.
Burial followed in Gethsemane Cemetery. The bearers were Garrett O’Brien, Katie O’Brien, Mary Taintor, Bartholomew Taintor, Mike Upshaw, Mark Upshaw and Patty Upshaw. A reception was held in the Fiske-Murphy & Mack Community Room following the burial.

ATHOL — Anne O’Brien, 87, of Athol, died Tuesday, Feb. 2, 2016, in the Baldwinville Nursing Home.
She was born in Athol, on July 25, 1928, the daughter of the late William and the late Annie (Fay) O’Brien.
Anne grew up in Athol and graduated from Athol High School. She attended St. Elizabeth’s, receiving her nursing degree. She was a registered nurse at Athol Memorial Hospital in the maternity ward and emergency room for over 50 years. She was a communicant of Our Lady Immaculate Church and a member of the Athol Council on Aging. She enjoyed downhill and cross country skiing in New England, walking, running, playing bridge, knitting, bowling, traveling, the ocean, and most of all spending time with family.
She leaves one brother, Robert O’Brien and his wife Joan of Orange; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers, William J. O’Brien and Bartlett O’Brien; and two sisters, Ellen M. Ellinwood and Margaret Taintor.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, Feb. 8, at 11 a.m., in Our Lady Immaculate Church, 192 School St., Athol. Burial will follow in Gethsemane Cemetery.
Calling hours will be held Monday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the Fiske-Murphy & Mack Funeral Home, 110 New Athol Rd., Orange.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made in her memory to Our Lady Immaculate Church Building Fund, 192 School St., Athol, MA 01331.
