ATHOL — Funeral services for Dominey J. Smith Jr. were held Monday, Nov. 9, 2015, in the Fiske-Murphy & Mack Funeral Home, Orange.


Rev. Edwin Montana, pastor of Our Lady Immaculate Church, Athol, officiated. Burial followed in Silver Lake Cemetery. Bearers were Brian Smith, Donny Smith, Roy Smith, Kris Smith, Kyle Smith and Robert Sullivan Jr. A reception was held at the Franco-Amerian Club in Athol.

ATHOL — Dominey J. Smith Jr., 82 of Athol, died Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2015 at home.

He was born in Altona, N.Y., on July 11, 1933, the son of the late Dominey J. and the late Laura I. (Forette) Smith.

He was raised and educated in New York and has been a resident of Athol since moving here in 1950. Mr. Smith worked for Mallet & Son Excavating from 1962 until his retirement. He had previously worked for the Athol Coal Company. He was a member of the Franco-American Club and a lifetime member of the American Lithuanian Naturalization Club in Athol and a founding member of the 25 Sportsman Club of Athol. Dominey enjoyed fishing and hunting. In 2005 he was awarded #1 Typical Buck Rack in Massachusetts.

He leaves three daughters, Sandra Biegen and her husband Joe of Orange, Anna M. Sullivan and her husband Robert of Torrington, Conn., and Bonnie Montgomery and her husband Paul of Amarillo, Texas; three sons, Roy A. Smith and his wife Lonnie of Athol, Donald L. Smith and his wife Arlene of Athol, and Brian C. Smith and his wife Julie of Athol; two sisters, Pauline “Che Che” Foster of Orange, and Valida Smith of Orange; 14 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his wife, Pearl Vancourt, who died 1998; his brother, Larry Smith; and his sister, Rita Lafountain.

Funeral services will be held Monday, Nov. 9, at 10 a.m., in the Fiske-Murphy & Mack Funeral Home, 110 New Athol Rd., Orange. Burial will follow in Silver Lake Cemetery.

Calling hours will be held Sunday, Nov. 8, from 4 to 6 p.m., at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made in his memory to 25 Sportsman Club Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 25, Athol, MA 01331.
