Mahar booters visit top-seeded Orioles
BELCHERTOWN — The Mahar boys’ soccer team hopes to keep its season alive with a visit to No. 1 Belchertown High School tonight.
The teams meet in the quarterfinal round of the WMass Division III tournament and the Orioles (13-1-4) enter as the heavy favorite.
Belchertown is one of the most storied programs in WMass under the guidance of head coach Tony Almeida (19th season). The Orioles focus on a stout defense and held opponents to a goal or less on 14 different occasions this season.
The Senators will bank on seniors Owen Cook, Eli Smith and Pedro Mattos to provide the offensive firepower.
The contest is slated to begin at 7 p.m. at Belchertown High School, 142 Old Springfield Rd., in Belchertown. Ticket prices are $5 for adults and $3 for students/seniors.
