Reminder on unregistered vehicles
ATHOL — The police department is reminding all residents of Chap. V, Sec. 27 of the town bylaws which prohibits the keeping of unregistered motor vehicles in open view on their properties. The only exceptions to this prohibition are:
• Property owners may keep one unregistered vehicle if the vehicle is capable of being registered and does not have any obvious safety violations.
• If the property owner is the holder of a license issued under Massachusetts General Laws Chap. 140, Sec. 59.
• The property owner has been granted a permit by the selectboard.
Fines for the violation of this by-law are $50 (first offense), $150 (second offense), and $300 (third offense).
Police officers will be watching for violations and taking action if and when they observe them, Police Chief Timothy Anderson said Thursday.
