Teen killed in car crash mourned
MEDWAY, Mass. (AP) — A Massachusetts community is mourning the death of a high school senior in a single car crash.
Grief counselors were on hand Sunday at Medway High School and an evening vigil was planned to remember Madeline “Maddy” Lamson.
The 17-year-old was killed late Friday after her car slammed into a tree in nearby Franklin.
School officials Sunday said Lamson was a smart and determined young woman, and had hoped to continue playing lacrosse and field hockey in college, as she did for her high school team.
Franklin police say Lamson’s car crashed at around 11:30 p.m. Friday on Lincoln Street. They said bystanders tried to pull Lamson from the car, but were forced back when the car caught fire.
A makeshift memorial has been set up at the tree.
