ORANGE, Mass. — A memorial service was held on Saturday, Nov. 18, 2017, at the North New Salem Congregational Church for Burnice Evelyn (Hallberg) Smith, 95, formerly of Orange and Warwick, Mass., who died on Oct. 22, in Enid, Okla., at the home of her son, Gordon “Bud” Smith Jr.

Rev. Edward Boren officiated and his wife, Janet Boren, was the pianist. Words of remembrance were offered by the grandchildren. Interment followed in South Cemetery, Orange.

Witty’s Funeral Home, 158 South Main St., Orange, was honored with directing the arrangements.

ENID, Okla. — The memorial service for Burnice Evelyn Hallberg Smith, 95, of Enid, Okla., will be held 10 a.m., Saturday Nov. 18, in the North New Salem Congregational Church, 60 Elm St., New Salem, Mass. with Rev. Edward “Ted” Boren officiating.

Burial will follow in South Cemetery, Orange, Mass.

Services are under the direction of Witty’s Funeral Home, 158 South Main St., Orange.

She was born May 20, 1922, to Charles and Ruth Hallberg on her family’s farm in Warwick, Mass., and passed from this life on Oct. 22, 2017, in Enid, Okla.

She was raised and educated in Orange, and graduated from Orange High School in 1940. She was married to her husband Gordon C. Smith in 1943, she remained in Orange while her husband was serving in World War II, and was a teacher aide after the war ended. She moved to Enid, Okla., in 1996 to be close to her son. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Methodist women, Chapter F.S. P.E.O., and delivered Meals on Wheels. She was the sweetest person ever and loved to be around people, crocheting, knitting, and working in the garden.

She is survived by one son, Gordon C. “Bud” Smith Jr. and wife Judy, of Enid, and one daughter, Cherryl McLaughlin of Belchertown, Mass; five grandchildren, Erin Lylis and Joe Green of Ludlow, Mass., Eric C. Smith and wife Jody of Tulsa, Okla., Jenny Watts and Greg Thompson of Dallas, Texas, Kevin Halstead and wife Tonya of Tulsa, Okla., and Kelly McLendon and husband Carter of Topeka, Kan.; six great-grandchildren, Kinsley and Elin Smith, Trevor Thompson, Jordan Halstead and Kara and Cole McClendon; one sister, Margery Stevens, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and two siblings, one brother, Carl Hallberg, and one sister, Priscilla Scott.
