Mark M. Ainsworth

ATHOL — Mark M. Ainsworth, 61, resident of Athol for most of his life, unexpectedly passed away peacefully on Monday, June 5, at his home in Athol.

Mark was the son of the late George M. and Iva F. Ainsworth. He was born in Athol on Dec. 6, 1955. He graduated from Athol High School in the class of 1973. His love of baseball and basketball began with his participation on those sports teams while attending Athol schools. He was a graduate of St. John’s College in Annapolis, Md., in 1977 with a Bachelor of Science degree, majoring in the Great Books of the Western World. Mark returned to Athol after college and remained living there until his death.

He worked as a tool designer for a local tool shop until it was purchased by Butterfield. Most recently, Mark worked as a computer assistant for a gas turbine field engineering services company, Pond and Lucier, LLC, based in upstate New York.

Mark was an avid sports fan of the New England professional teams, especially the Boston Red Sox. He often attended games at Fenway Park with his brother. He was an accomplished on-line chess player and enjoyed bike riding in his younger days along the highways of New England.

Mark is survived by a brother, David W. Lucier (Sheelah), of Niskayuna, N.Y. Mark was a kind, gentle person, who will be greatly missed by his family. He was extremely well-read and an expert on many subjects.

Visitation will begin at Higgins-O’Connor Funeral Home, at 146 Main St. in Athol, on Wednesday, June 14, at 10 a.m., to be followed by a service of remembrance at the funeral home. Interment will immediately follow at the family plot at Silver Lake Cemetery in Athol.
