Athol gridders smash Green Wave 32-0
ATHOL — The Athol High School football team caught a break Friday night and made the most of it in a 32-0 defeat of Greenfield.
The Wave arrived without quarterback Max Pirozhkov and managed just 43 yards of offense against the Raiders. Athol, on the other hand, used a powerful running attack to punish Greenfield.
Robbie Nelson led the Athol attack with 88 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Mason Barrieau and Nick Casella chipped in 41 yards and a touchdown each as the Raiders racked up 204 yards rushing.
Quarterback Trever Mousseau completed 2-of-4 passes for 33 yards. Tyler Lutz, who ran for 26 yards, had one catch for 20 yards. Former quarterback Bryce Melanson had a 13-yard reception.
Carter Amadon and Isaac Raulston both had interceptions for the Raiders.
Casella opened the scoring with a 31-yard touchdown run in the first quarter. Mousseau hit Melanson on the conversion for an 8-0 lead.
Nelson had scoring runs of 10 and five yards in the second quarter and ran in both conversion for a 24-0 lead.
Barrieau capped the scoring with a 3-yard run to pay dirt in the third quarter. Casella ran in the conversion.
The win snapped a six-game losing streak for the Raiders. Their opponent for next week has yet to be determined.
