ATHOL — A graveside service was held on Saturday morning, June 3, 2017 in South Cemetery, Orange, for Elizabeth A. “Betty” (Bezio) North, 78, of South Athol Road, who died peacefully at home on Jan. 11, 2017 following an illness. 

Deacon Bryan Lagimoniere of St. Francis of Assisi and Our Lady Immaculate Churches, both of Athol, officiated. Following the Rites of Committal, a reception was held at the Orange American Legion.

Witty’s Funeral Home, 158 South Main St., Orange, was honored with directing the arrangements.

ATHOL — Elizabeth A. (Bezio) North, 78, of South Athol Road, died early Wednesday morning, January 11, 2017 at home following an illness, with her loving family at her side.

Born in Wendell on September 7, 1938, she was a daughter of Harold and Kathleen (Tipton) Bezio and grew up in Wendell and attended the New Salem Academy.

On December 20, 1955, Elizabeth married Oren North and they have enjoyed over 61 years of marriage.

Known throughout the North Quabbin region as an expert seamstress, Elizabeth did sewing and repairs all her life. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting and knitting.

For several years, she was a cook for the Morgan Memorial Camp in South Athol and loved all the children.

Family was very important to Elizabeth and she enjoyed playing cards with them as well as cooking and baking all kinds of treats, which they devoured with love. Elizabeth also enjoyed gardening and trips to the casino. Saturday nights, she and Oren would join George and Nan Hunt for dinner out and enjoyed their company and friendship for years.

Survivors include her beloved husband, Oren North of Athol; daughters, Terry Lavigne (Don) of Oregon, Debbie Lackey (Michael) of Royalston, Robin Duguay (Ronny), Rose Marie North of Florence, and Tammy Smith (Thomas) of Virginia; a son, John North (Jennifer) of Athol; 11 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; a brother, Bobby Bezio (Mary Ann) of West Virginia; and nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by brothers, Billy Bezio, Donald Bezio, Nelson Bezio, Richard Bezio, Harold Bezio Jr., and Kenny Bezio.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday evening, Jan. 18, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Witty’s Funeral Home, 158 South Main Street, Orange.

A graveside service will be held at a later date in the spring at South Cemetery, Orange.

In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to the Health Alliance Home Health and Hospice, 60 Hospital Road, Leominster, MA 01453.
