Carol E. Bassett

PHILLIPSTON — Carol E. (White) Bassett, 78 of 95 Baldwinville Rd., died Thursday, Nov. 26, 2015, at home.

She was born in Ware, on May 14, 1937, the daughter of the late Phillip and the late Dorothy (Darling) White.

Carol grew up in Athol and graduated from Athol High School. She was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the United States Navy. She has resided in Phillipston for 55 years.

She worked at the Fernald School, Red Apple Farm and Adams Printing. She was a member of the Phillipston Congregational Church, where she chaired the “Rummage Sale” at the Church Bazaar. She enjoyed fishing, reading and gardening. She supplied the town with night crawlers.

She leaves two sons, Todd M. Bassett of Phillipston, and Stephen M. Bassett and his wife Marjorie of Royalston; three daughters, Susan M. Pitts of Athol, Amy M. Bassett of Cape Cod and Jessica M. Bassett of Phillipston; 14 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; one sister, Barbara Wrest of Virginia; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, Edward L. Bassett Jr., who died in 1997, and one sister, Hillary White.

A graveside service will be held Wednesday, Dec. 2, at 11 a.m., in the Lower Cemetery, Phillipston.

No calling hours are scheduled.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made in her memory to Phillipston Congregational Church, On The Common, Phillipston, MA 01331.
