Name change, expanded service announced
LEOMINSTER — Twin Cities Community Development Corporation, which formerly served Fitchburg and Leominster, announced its name change, to NewVue Communities, as it expands its mission to serve the entire region, including the North Quabbin.
The community development and affordable housing organization celebrated its 35th annual meeting on Tuesday at the Boys & Girls Club of Fitchburg and Leominster, where it unveiled its new name and expanded service territory—which now includes Gardner, along with 19 adjoining communities.
“Our new name and expanded mission represents a regional approach to developing quality housing, creating economic opportunities, and fostering civic engagement in North Central Massachusetts,” said Marc Dohan, executive director of NewVue Communities.
According to Dohan, a regional approach makes more sense than serving just Fitchburg and Leominster, since the region is inextricably united through housing, economic development and civic participation.
“We felt that the time was right to take our model, which has worked very well in Fitchburg and Leominster, and apply it to the region,” said Dohan. “You have so many residents that live in one of our rural communities but work in one of the three cities, so the economic and housing health of one community can have a direct impact on other communities.”
Current projects include plans for creating housing in the former Carter Junior High School in Leominster and B.F. Brown Middle School in Fitchburg. The organization is also a partner in Fitchburg’s Re-Imagine North of Main initiative, designed to improve the quality of life for current and future residents living in the neighborhood.
NewVue Communities is dedicated to developing quality housing, economic opportunities, and broad civic engagement in Ashburnham, Ashby, Athol, Ayer, Clinton, Fitchburg, Gardner, Groton, Harvard, Hubbardston, Lancaster, Leominster, Lunenburg, Petersham, Phillipston, Royalston, Shirley, Sterling, Templeton, Townsend, Westminster and Winchendon.
