ORANGE — Funeral services were held on Saturday morning, Nov. 21, 2015, at Witty’s Funeral Home in Orange, for Duane H. Wright, 61, who died unexpectedly at Athol Hospital on Nov. 12, after being stricken ill earlier at home.
The Rev. Don Erickson of the Community Church of North Orange and Tully officiated. Interment was in South Cemetery, Orange. The bearers were Rob Ford, Darrell Romanko, James Hackett, Jason Wozniak, Lance Mallet and Peter Tucker.
Following the committal service, a reception was held at the Tully Boiler Room Bar and Grill.
Witty’s Funeral Home, 158 South Main St., Orange, was honored with directing the arrangements.
ORANGE — Duane H. Wright, 61, died Nov. 12, 2015, at Athol Hospital after being stricken ill.
Born on Sept. 12, 1954, in Kansas City, Mo., he was a son of the late Robert H. and Barbara A. (Dungan) Wright.
He earned a bachelor’s in electrical engineering from California State at Fullerton and a master’s in English literature at the University of Massachusetts in Boston. Duane also received an engineering degree from Air University New York as well as a degree from the Community College of the Air Force.
Duane spent 26 years in the Air Force and the Massachusetts Air National Guard before retiring. While in the service, he was a commissioned officer in charge of Air Traffic Control Facilities and Global Command, was a trainer manager for 21 production centers, a team chief of engineering and installation in the Middle East, and had earned a Meritorious Service Medal and two Air Force Commendation Medals.
He later worked as a maintenance electrical engineer for Charter NEX Films in Turners Falls. He had also worked at Hi-De Liners in Orange, and Country Kitchens in Brattleboro, Vt.
He loved dogs, especially greyhounds and whippets. Duane also enjoyed collecting classic cars. Duane also enjoyed carpentry, boating, fishing and motorcycles.
Survivors include his long time companion, Jennifer A. Paynter of Orange, and her family Patricia Paynter and Thomas Paynter; and many friends he worked with.
A calling hour will be held on Saturday, Nov. 21, from 10 to 11 a.m., at Witty’s Funeral Home, 158 South Main St., Orange.
