Mahar stickers drop 4-3 decision to Narragansett in season finale

BALDWINVILLE — A high-scoring Narragansett attack proved too much for the Mahar field hockey team in a 4-3 loss, Thursday night.

Kadie Jillson staked Mahar to a 1-0 lead when she converted a pass from senior Ally Parker just a minute into the contest. The Warriors turned the tables when Heather Burdett knocked in the equalizer with 17 minutes to go in the first half.

Becca Lucier gave the Warriors a 2-1 lead with 14:22 left in the half and Bailey Burnett made it 3-1 with 9:14 to go.

Mahar battled back with a goal from Rachel Latwis, assisted by Joslyn O’Brien with 8:07 to go and the score remained 3-2 into the half.

Freshman McKenna Collins knocked in a pass from Jillson to tie the game with 26:08 left to play, but Allison Lashua converted a corner with 7:53 remaining to give the Warriors the victory.

The loss ends a disappointing season for a Mahar team that missed the tournament for the first time since 2009. The Senators entered the season hoping to compete with Frontier for a WMass title. Mahar split two regular season games with the Red Hawks, but finished the season 7-10-1 overall.
