90th birthday celebrated
ATHOL — Retired school superintendent Jim Kelley, who served the Athol-Royalston Regional School District from 1967 to 1994, celebrated his 90th birthday recently at his daughter Patricia’s home on the island of Maui in Hawaii.
Kelley and his wife, Marlys, enjoyed the hospitality provided by Patricia and her husband, Chris, during the month of April. Patricia has been a resident of the island for more than 20 years.
Both Patricia and Kelley’s daughter Kathleen are graduates of Athol High School.
Kathleen is a resident of Pembroke, where she and her husband, John, and their two daughters have lived for many years.
Kelley had the pleasure of having to separate birthday parties — one on Maui and the other in Pembroke.
In May, Kelley and his wife observed Memorial Day at their home on Nantucket Island, where Kelley took part of the annual parade. Kelley is a World War II veteran with the ranking of Lt. Commander USNR (retired). He was escorted by Jeep, in the parade, to the Memorial Day services along with fellow WWII veterans.
