Hopkins edges Athol

HADLEY — With a third-quarter charge and backed by 30 points from Samantha Jenks, the Hopkins Academy varsity girls’ basketball defeated the Athol Red Raiders, 64-61, on Friday night.

Along with Jenks’ contribution, which pushed her past 1,000 in her career, Allison Kowal-Safron dumped in 19 points.

Destiny Wrigley led the Red Raiders with 23 points, while Geca Baptista scored, including eight free throws.

Athol led 10-7 at the end of the first quarter and 28-19 by halftime. However, the Golden Hawks outscored the Red Raiders 22-11 in the third quarter to move ahead 41-39. Hopkins Academy outscored the Red Raiders 23-22 in the fourth quarter for the 64-61 final.
